Kichirou was more than a little tired. He let out a groan as he threw himself down onto the bed, his ankles dangling off the end of it even though he was all the way up to the headboard practically. Since the arrival of Ahilians to their world, Kichirou had been knee deep into the kennel and breeding program that his father had established. He had thought he had a good handle on the species and on the demands that they needed from the humans that cared for them. He was quickly learning that he had only been looking at things through half of the picture. He helped his father, yes, but he did not run things and he had never had one residing in his home before. The work was split between his father, himself, and those that his father hired to help care for all of the Ahilians that they owned.

Now Kichirou had two that lived with him and he had not been in the least bit prepared. It wasn't that they were inherently bad or anything of the like. They were just... like having two toddlers in the house, except these toddlers had sharp teeth, long claws and even some other potential powers that he would rather not think about right now. They were just as curious as any young child and loved to get into everything. Sometimes he felt as if he had no break, particularly when he was busy scolding one and trying to teach right from wrong and then the other would be busy sticking its nose into something else. To be fair, Marco was generally well-behaved, particularly once he had been scolded over something and told that wasn't right. Jeanne was the hard-headed one that tried to ignore him when it suited her and tended to butt heads - often literally - with just about anything that stood in her way.

It had been his own decision to bring them in, of course. He had earned no bit of ire from his father. He had been sent to bring home some new blood for their kennels. He had certainly done that, all right. The problem was that he had brought home two Ahilians that were so far removed from what was acceptable by show standards that his father had honestly lost some of the general mask that he schooled his face into in order to gape. Though he stood taller than most men, taller than his father, Kichirou had still hunched down incredibly small, looking thoroughly like a young schoolboy caught doing wrong. It wasn't that he had meant to defy his father. Kichirou just had a weak spot for those that were different or hurt, for the underdog and the undesirables. As a child he had always dragged home the ugliest, dirtiest dogs, the cats that would hiss and snarl and scratch at anyone that came near (except him, never him) and took on the horses that anyone else would deem as insane. He just liked to give things a chance and, usually, animals responded to that kindness.

Usually. He had a bit of a task ahead of him with these two, but then that didn't mean they were bad. They were just smart, which meant they were stubborn. He gave a sigh as he toed his shoes off and slid his long legs up on the bed more. He thought of getting up, getting dressed for bed, turning down the covers, but it all seemed like too much effort at the moment. Maybe in the middle of the night, when he woke up cold and uncomfortable, he would take care of the problem. Right now, he would just close his eyes for a little bit. He turned his face a little to rest the side of it against the soft, cool fabric of the pillow and made a small mumbling noise at the feel of it. He shifted just a tiny bit more, bringing one hand up underneath the pillow to help support his head more. He rested there, feeling his breathing slowly beginning to deepen and even out, feeling his body grow heavier and his mind beginning to slip into that comforting blankness before he slipped into full sleep.

It was nice, finally getting to rest. It was nice to lie in his large, comfortable bed and to not worry about any other problems, to only hear the soft sounds of the outside, the crickets and the distant sounds of other creatures running through the woods; the soft click of nails on the wooden floor growing closer. His nose scrunched up slightly at that and he blinked once or twice, his amber eyes confused in the darkness of the room. No, that wasn't quite true. The room wasn't a hundred percent dark... because right there, in front of him, was a floating head glowing an eerie light. No, not even a full head - a half head.

"Bloody hell," the words slipped from his mouth as he pushed himself upwards onto his arms, backing up on the bed with admirable speed for someone who had been half asleep just a few seconds before. "What on earth-" he began before his eyes began to adjust some to the dim room and his brain began to catch up with the rest of him. That wasn't a ghost in the room, that was Marco. He brought a hand up to his face, covering one eye for a moment as he blew out an exasperated breath. "You scared me. You shouldn't sneak up on people like that."

Sneak? I no sneak. Walk.

"Says you," he said, his tone fond despite the words. "An' what do you want, hm?"

Hungry. Food now?

"You ate already," Kichirou responded to the perked up ears and eager tone of voice with a slight yawn. "It's bedtime, you know."

The ears lowered some and Kichirou felt his heart lurch at the saddened expression on the Ahilian's face even though he knew he was in the right. Hungry. Jeanne has food, Marco's mental voice sounded more than a little petulant and grouchy. As much as the two of his Ahilians got along, they were a bonded pair after all, they still sometimes tried to best one another.

"How does she - where did she get food?" Kichirou had taken to locking it all up after a few incidents. There should be no way the other Ahilian had anything that was food-like.

Small furry meow is food.

"Small furry me- no!" Kichirou bolted up from the bed at that, ignoring the startled little noise that actually came from the normally silent Ahilian at his actions. "No! No, we do not eat the cats!" He dashed out of the bedroom, sliding a bit in his socks against the hardwood floors and made a mad dash for the very disgruntled and spitting cat that was currently grasped between Jeanne's two front paws. So much for getting some sleep and a chance to relax.
I have wanted to write this even before Ahilian Marco got designed, since I knew he was going to have a white (or mostly white) head and I just imagined him waking up whoever his handler/owner was in the middle of the night and there would just be this glowing head staring at him. Not the way I would want to wake up. I couldn't figure out how to really spin anything so I just went with my gut instinct to make it funny and this was the end result. No, we do not eat kitties.

Ahilians are a made up species that now have their own art rp! You can join and find out more information at :iconahilians:. We're always looking for people to join and have lots of fun with us. :3

ROFL Poor Kichirou. I need to work on Carina and Shulash, maybe Ainsley and Avulash for here. As well as Camillo's companion piece. So much to do.
